Nigel Freemarijuana's Drugs Policy
Nigel sees prohibition as a mental illness that has been forced upon us by the
USA. It has created the drug problem and through the creation of a massive black
market has corrupted politicians, police and judges. It has criminalised a generation
of young people and generated community fear and division.
The key to understanding Nigel is that he does NOT advocate drug use or claim that the use
of cannabis is harmless. He simply believes that the drug laws do far more damage
than the drugs themselves and our leaders must face their duty of care and sanely regulate
drugs. For example, it is often claimed that cannabis use causes mental illness,
paranoia and alienation from society. While cannabis may be unsuitable for some
people, when there is a law saying you are a criminal, the police can arrest you and you
and your friends are second class citizens, these feelings are not unreasonable.
Nigel believes that the personal and social consequences of cannabis are no less than
alcohol so cannabis should have at least the same legal status. He advocates the
availability of cannabis from cafes, legal takeaways and homegrown cannabis (like homebrew
beer). This would eliminate the black market and create a booming new industry in
Queensland. It would be a massive tourist attraction.
Nigel's policy platform is outlined below;

We must understand that while prohibition is a disaster for the community it serves the
interests of some very powerful groups. These include organised crime, corrupt
officials, moral zealots, the petrochemical and pharmaceutical industries and
intellectually challenged politicians looking for a scapegoat. The forces of reason
face a huge challenge in combating these groups and the years of propaganda that has
brainwashed people into seeing prohibition as the only answer. Prohibition has failed
and in time we will see this. In the meantime, countless lives are shattered.
